Maureen Maguire, CFP®, AIF®
I entered the financial planning profession with a desire to help people understand the importance of planning for the future and how to go about that. I've been fortunate that the clients who are drawn to me are interested in achieving financial security by virtue of working hard and saving for the future. I’ve been privileged to share in that journey having worked with many of my clients for 20 to 30 years now. Witnessing my clients achieve their financial goals is unquestionably the aspect of my career that brings me the most joy.
Prior to my career in financial planning, I worked in the nonprofit sector and teaching. My desire to be of service is a guiding principle. The intersection of capitalism, environmentalism, and social justice cannot be denied. In the 1990s, we did not have the research available to support the argument that in the long run, companies that do the right thing by their employees and their communities tend to be more profitable. Good management aside, at a minimum, these companies are less exposed to litigation risk. Because we had no evidence of this bearing out and because we were narrowing our investment selection possibilities due to lack of investment options at the time, I would give clients a choice: Did they want to screen their portfolios in line with their values given that they may give up some profitability to do so? Fortunately, clients no longer have to make this choice. It has now been shown that profitability and good citizenship can, in fact, go hand in hand.
I am privileged to have a career that allows me to work with clients in a way that favorably impacts them as well as the future of their children, grandchildren, and community at large.
For fun, I enjoy hiking, dancing, reading, and, most of all, time with my family. I am fortunate to be able to spend time with my daughter, who lives in New York. We have an agreement that I visit her twice a year and she visits me twice a year. I probably spend more time with her than if she lived across the bay! In addition, I have recently married a wonderful man with seven lovely grandchildren. We love spending time cooking and traveling together with my daughter and his family combined. Also, volunteering in the community has always been, and continues to be, important to me.

My family has always been active in our community, ranging from environmental activism and disaster preparation to improving tribal members’ living/social conditions. My Chippewa family has been a major inspiration to my work by watching how active they are in tribal leadership, beginning with education services all the way through tribal law enforcement.
I graduated cum laude from Humboldt State University, School of Business in 2008. During my schooling, I was a founding member of the Student Managed Investment Fund, which is designed to offer business students hands-on experience managing investments. Profits above our criteria were designated toward scholarships for eligible low-income students. My studies focused on socially conscious investments and financial planning techniques. I designed algorithms to run intrinsic value calculations on stocks that met our socially conscious screens.
Post-graduation, I began my career calculating intrinsic values to existing positions, alongside designing hedging strategies using combinations of derivatives. As I continued this deep dive into finance, I found the major missing piece to my analysis was the true understanding of financial planning and how that relates to the risk/reward profile of my clients. Managing money for the profit of our clients with no true catalyst as to what that profit supports is an inherent problem in the financial industry.
As I completed my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor® designation, I have been able to tailor my services toward those who find true value using holistic financial planning methods that bring all aspects of my clients’ financial futures together under one umbrella. My ideal client is inspired to align their financial futures with their personal, social, and environmental beliefs. My focus is to see my clients through their life paths, ensuring that they have a safe and sound plan each step of the way.
As I now have a beautiful son, the need to make a difference in the world and to show him what one woman is capable of is stronger than ever.
I have been named a Five Star Wealth Advisor* for 2016–2019 and won Community Development awards during my college years.

I joined Terra Blue Wealth Management because I want to be a part of a team that advocates for a better world. I am new to finance but could not be more thrilled to have joined my sister Vanessa, Maureen, and Candi on this venture to make a true difference.
I graduated from Texas State University with a bachelor's degree in international business. What fascinated me the most in my business studies was the interaction between commerce and society. While studying in Spain, I tracked how several Spanish businesses treated their employees, the environment, and their communities. What I found was the companies that cultivated an enriched vocational terrain, engaged in more environmentally friendly manufacturing processes, and gave back to their communities generally showed higher profit margins and more sustainable business models in our changing commercial landscape. I am excited to learn more about investment opportunities in companies like the ones I studied.
I am quickly learning just how powerful financial planning is. The work that Terra Blue Wealth Management does for its communities and clients is outstanding. The stories each client has to tell and the financial pathways that were created are heartwarming. I deeply appreciate Maureen's and Vanessa's commitment to engaging with our communities outside the office, as well.
